How to setup a Router, so I can host games?

Ok so I had problems sharing my internet across other comps.
I placed a router inbetween internet connections and all comps.

Shared internet works but as I feared I can no longer host games.
i.e. ppl are unable to join.

Is there a way to prevent this?

it might help if, in at least one of the 2 threads you now have going, you tell us what type of router (make and model) you have ;)
