Moving house

Hiya - quick question:

I'm moving to another house in the same town, and the postcode is still in an NTL area. I just need to transfer the service and get reconnected at the new house. I'm moving probably next Tuesday.

Is it possible for me to ring customer services to arrange a transfer at this rather short notice of 8 days or will NTL need more notice?

I have moved house before, but only from one rented place to another rented place, and I was able to give much more notice. ~This time though, I'm on the property market (!) and due to the way that solicitors work, I haven't been able to get much leeway at all.

Thanks :-)

If you inform them say tomorrow they will probably dissconect your services within the hour however it will take an age to get connected at the new house if i no house moves they dont have much luck there always upseting customers dont know how that department has survived for so long.

It may depend on whether the new gaff has an NTL cable already installed. If it does, then 'theoretically' the physical move should be relatively straightforward. Otherwise you are subject to resource on new installs in your area.

The 'loup dans l'histoire' may be billing - you will probably still have to pay for your old account up to the monthly rollover date, as well as your new account, at the same time - any excess charge 'should' be credited in the next monthly bill :)

Re: Moving house

When I had my NTL services moved to my rent 3 years ago, my connection was only disconnected 1 business day before my move. In this case, my old house was disconnected on Fri 13.Jun.2003 and then reconnected at the new house on Mon 16.Jun.2003. I don't know if my new 2006 house does have the cable box already installed, although the area is NTL-ready, having tracked the postcode.

I didn't give them much notice when I moved in April, so I expected a few weeks before they'd be out to install it. But, they gave a me a date only a week after I told them I was moving, so not bad. Better than I had expected!

Thanks for the answer, although varied :-) I'll give CS a ring tomorrow and post my result.

To update you guys:

I have called CS on option 4 today and they offered me a connection date of 1.Sep.2006, which is less than the 10 business day rule. Cool! They even offered me a Saturday visit (2.Sep) but I settled down with Fri (1.Sep). Well impressed. I was on hold for 4 minutes in the end, which again, isn't bad at all.

Cancel NTL and move to sky, It'll be far less hastle.

my sister moved in June and they still can get it right, as soon as she can shes going to sky.

Re: Moving house

David, if you could elaborate please, that would be nice :-)

As before, I have made a transfer in 2003 which was flawless.

Was your problem with billing, or installing the small white box in your living room, or was it a post-sales technical problem?

Thanks.

P.S. My new house is 1992, so it may or may not have a white box installed already. I'm not sure.
