help to crop an image

hey everyone,

I have an image I would like to crop, but not sure how to do it.

I have tried to cut the size of the image I want, but i don't get it teh right width, and MS Paint does not let me move over to the side to have more area.

i can use my wheel mouse to scroll down and increase the length of the image, just not the width.

the image file is 2048w x 1536h but want it 1200w x 1600h px

i want the centre of the image, how do I do this?

I'm not sure if this helps, and I'm not at a windows box now, but you can manually specify the width (pixels) in paint. Also, you can rotate the picture to make sure it get's taken off the correct side.

i have the gimp, but I find it very difficult to use, i know i can stretch and skew on paint, but thats all i can see.

I think 'Image properties' allows you to manually specify pixels, thereby cropping the image.

Ifranview? I use it now and then to ensure I get the right dimensions. Free as well ;)

Like they say in Pulp Fiction... "MmmmMMmmm! This IS a tasty burger!"

Oops, wrong quote... I mean "Bring out The Gimp".

It's quite fiddly, but you need to get the mouse pointer exactly on one of the bottom corners of the selection, until it turns into a double headed arrow (not the cross with arrowheads).

Then drag the pointer in the direction you want to enlarge the selection, just to the right if you want to extend it that way.

[Edit] - Sorry, that just stretches it rather than increasing it...

Apparently there's no way to increase the size of a selection in Paint once you've let go of the mouse button! The double headed arrow selection points just stretch the image.

Paint.net found here should do what you want & be as familiar as Paint.

Download link is at the top of the page...
