Speed and signal strength

Can anyone please clarify if the signal strength and speed figures that appear when I look at the status of my wireless connection are solely to do with the connection to the router and not influenced by the cable connection.

I'm just a bit confused as I get Excellent signal strength but speeds that fluctuate from 54 to 1MBs and other times low signal strength but good speed. This happens whether I have only one or both computers connected

Thanks
Mike

I presume that you mean that your general browsing/download speed fluctuates?

If so, then this is more likley to do with the cable modem. Try bypassing the wireless router and see if the problem persists if possible.

i think he means the network connection
between the wireless card/USB and the wireless router

i have the same problems aswell
but cant find a fix either
might be some kind of interference
