MS Yahoo on talking terms

BBC
Quote:

Users of the Yahoo and Microsoft instant messaging programs can now contact each other directly.
The two firms have released software that ties the two networks into a huge community of 350 million users.
The trial software allows people to swap text messages but will eventually let people talk to each other too.
The move marks a break with the past when operators of the big instant message systems resisted calls to open up their networks.
About flippin time :dozey:

I do believe more than half of the IM troubles from Yahoo/MSN Messenger come from the sheer amount of kids who chain mail on them and are on them never ending.

I run WLM most of the time I am online but some people are honestly addicted to it

Poor you, I've got this on my Yahoo now telling me I can this amazing thing, but what if I am happy running them seperate? I am fine doing this because I believe adding them together is only going to cause more problems, hence why I gave up using Trillian.

Live Messenger Now works with Yahoo!

As of today 13 July 2006 Windows Live messenger users will be able to talk to Yahoo Messenger users. No need to download a new version of WLM.

To enable this feature all you have to do is login HERE and accept the user agreement and begin to manually add Yahoo Messenger users in the same way as you would any WLM user. :)

A little note taken from Mess.be about a possible conflict with Messenger Plus! Live.

dwergs says:
Nothing catastrophic here, but according to Messers Nitemare and messer27 the Yahoo! interoperability conflicts with Messenger Plus! Live to a certain extent. Enabling interoperability (check below for instructions) upgrades your account to the new protocol (MSNP14) which somewhat confuses the popular addon as nicknames are replaced with numbers ("1" for WLM contacts, "32" for Yahooligans) in, for example, the Event Viewer.

Patchou was already about to release Messenger Plus! Live 4.01 so I'm sure he'll first make the necessary changes to the new build in order to get rid of this bug.

I guess i didn't search well enough, thanks for merging threads. :)
