Independant labels want to free music.

Aim, an organisation representing independant record labels has called for the record industry to change the way we pay for downloaded music. It wants the actual downloads to be available for "free", but we pay a monthly subscription to download them.

Now, I have to admit, I think thise *could* be a good idea. Depends how much they charge. If they charge £2 or £3 a month, then I would go for it. If they charge too much more, it could be a bit of a rip off..

Not quite. They suggest a subscription based streaming service, with actual downloads still being paid for.

Quote:

They say that, in the future, the industry would make money for streaming music by charging Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for distribution.

However, customers would still have to pay for a permanent copy of a piece of music on CD, or as a download stored on their hard drive.
I suppose it depends on the price, but personally, I think it's a bit of a non-starter.
