CCTV Signage

I am the Treasurer of a Social Club, which has just had a CCTV system put in (from another premises), with recording equipment.

I am aware that we need to register with the Data Protection people, but we also need to put up signs.

Does anyone know what needs to put onto it, or an example of one.

Thanks

Lee

I can't believe I managed to find this...

http://www.uk-safety-signs.co.uk/CCTV.htm

I believe you should also say that the images will be recorded..

The ones I know have a camera, and something along the lines of: "these premises are protected by CCTV". But, since you have to get in touch with the Data Protection People anyway, why not ask them? I'm sure they can either tell you the requirements for the sign, or can otherwise tell you where to ask.

Should (very unlikely) anyone question the recordings on the basis of improper signage, you don't want to tell the judge: "well this bloke on nthellworld told me this was ok" ;)

Anything that is held on magnetic data must be registered with the Data Protection people. You must have signs up saying these premises have CCTV.

Re: CCTV Signage

I have CCTV cameras on the front and back of the house and the sign on the wall just simply says:
WARNING
24 HOUR CCTV
IN OPERATION
THESE PREMISES ARE PROTECTED BY CCTV
Obvously the words are more central and there is a silouette of a cctv camera on the right hd side of the sign, but basically thats all it says.

For some more information, there's this document from the Information Commissioner's website:

http://ico-cms.amaze.co.uk/DocumentU...0Checklist.pdf

There is also a code of practice at:

http://ico-cms.amaze.co.uk/DocumentU...20Practice.pdf

The full Information Commissioner's site can be found at:
http://www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk/

Hope this helps.

I have 2 hidden cctv cameras and a time lapse video recorder with no signs.

I would guess being a business application it's a bit different, but for my residential use I couldnt care less. They would have to scale a 6ft fence to get caught on camera anyway!

I think it's laws gone mad again, if the camera only covers your closed off property what business should it be for the data protaction people?

You don't have to worry about DPA and signage if your domestic CCTV only overlooks your own property. Having said that, using some warning signs might deter people from even trying.
You could always put a sign up saying "Beware of Escapee with cricket bat" :D :D

Re: CCTV Signage

Wether or not legally required, having the signs up to accompany the CCTV is a deterrent as it in itself makes someone think twice about wrongdoing, knowing that they may be caught on camera.
