[Merged] Let's be careful out there - BPI action
I am sure no one is involved in any illegal downloading of music files, but just in case -
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/5165372.stm "The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) has written to Tiscali and Cable & Wireless asking them to suspend 59 accounts for "illegal filesharing"." |
Re: Let's be careful out there
Snag is half the companies of which target these places have staff who download it anyways and will make it as hard for the main system to work as possible

Re: Let's be careful out there
That and if ISPs were to clamp down on it and kick off users that P2P they would have very few users paying them.

Re: Let's be careful out there
I have to disagree, as I am fairly paranoid about computer security and will not have P2P software on my network at home - but this is my opinion, and everyone else is entitled to theirs (but not on my home network).
Two reasons 1) I used to manage a network of 5500 PC's and associated servers, and the problems we had with P2P stuff was unbelievable (until we became the software Nazis and clamped down on everyone); they sucked up all our external bandwidth, and it used to screw up the desktops no end. 2) I have a buddy who has a B.Sc and a D.Phil in Computer Science, 20 years experience in hands-on IT, and is currently involved in Innovation and Security at a major bank - he is the hacker to end all hackers, multiple o/s's on his laptop, home networks attached to Tivo's and Hard Disk music libraries, etc, etc. I asked him if he has/would have P2P at home - his answer was no - it's a slight risk, but not one he was willing to take - reward over effort. What's the phrase - if you don't know, ask an expert (then take his/her advice, for if you don't, what was the point of asking). |

Re: Let's be careful out there
P2P though is often the downside of many a user, I have given up counting the amount of computers I help fix and find out they have some p2p application like Limewire or Bearshare etc running, on bootup along with the crap they come with, toolbars and hidden App's etc.
Although I have seen people just using torrents who end up with ten tonnes of rubbish as many of people to run the applications do not bothered with adequate security for their computers, and as stated p2p requires full unconditional access to the internet, so you are a sitting duck should the anti-copyright bodies be on the lookout. The day of p2p is dying and I believe soon your own computer will grass you up. |
Industry to stop 'music cheats'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/5165372.stm
So if one of the sidelights on your car isn't working petrol station shouldnââ‚à ‚¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t allow you to fill up. If the Music Industry did charge so much in trying to line their fat bosses pockets may be there would not be so much pirating. |

1p a track! Rip off! Allofmp3 is a lot cheaper ;)
I too won't have p2p on my pc. All those people connected to your pc? Hmm...too risky in my eyes. Usenet is your friend. |

I dunno. Someone who really canes there connection by using P2P 24/7 (as I believe some on here do) would probably cost the ISP MORE than their monthly connection fee to keep as a customer. ---------- Post added at 09:51 ---------- Previous post was at 09:48 ---------- Quote:
