Belkin Wireless G router

Afternoon All..

I have just bought the above. Connected as per instructions and at this time hardwired to the PC.

It does work. However I have a Ntl 100 series modem which was only ever good for 6Mbit at best - this has now dropped to four with the router. Is this normal?

I wondered if I needed to change the duplex / speed settings on the network card - its currently set to auto detect - is this correct?

Anyone else got one of these devices and have any tips on optimum performance?

cheers

Mark

Chances are the PC and router wired connection is detecting fine. It'll be the connection between router and modem that might not be autodetecting correctly. No idea how you reset that though.

I'd expect a very slight loss of speed, purely because there is another hurdle for the data to pass, i.e. the router, but it should be marginal. Of course if your PC is sending more enquiries to the router than the router can pass through to the modem, that might be making a mess of the speed too. Presumably you haven't got other firewall, or similar security software that's conflicting?

Is it 4 irrespective of whether you're connected wirelessly or wired to the router?

No idea, but the OP can check what he gets if he uses the speed test with and without the router attached.
