Re: slow 10 meg
I hope this thread isn't dead yet.
I have the same problem (I'm in London). I've had 10mb for a week now and this is how its been from day one: 1st: 912 kilobits per second, 111 kB/s, 0.91 Mbps 2nd: 709 kilobits per second, 86 kB/s, 0.71 Mbps 3rd: 802 kilobits per second, 97 kB/s, 0.8 Mbps 4th: 917 kilobits per second, 112 kB/s, 0.92 Mbps [You get what i mean]. What kills me is that my eMule only uploads at 9Kbps, and never more. And even when it manages that, I can't browse anymore. Even google.com takes about 25 seconds to load up. The funny thing is that I noticed it straight away and called them up at 11.45pm. The guy must have been exhausted because he told me that its totally fine: "You're receiving roughtly 7MB... thats normal". I can't wait to call them up tomorrow and scream. I'll let you know what happens. If Anal Adventures 2 stays at 2.4% any longer I might kill myself. (That was a joke). Someone console me by replying. |
Re: slow 10 meg
Hi
I got onto 10 meg when it first became available with ntl, and was fine then, but over the last few weeks it has been effectively a 4 meg service. At first I assumed it was the odd drop-off but checking several times a day each day I realised it was consistent. It has never got beyond 3.5-ish Mbps download speed. I have tried absolutely everything. Different computers, with/without airport, spent hours on the phone to India trying all kinds of things. Downgrading to 1 meg showed that the testing method (they suggested a site called internetfrog.com) at least worked. An engineer came out and agreed that everything was working fine except the speed. Another came out today and we tested the speed using the laptop at the street cabinet: max speed was 3 Mbps download. So ntl is charging for 10 meg but only supplying a 4 meg service and they appear to be unable to test the speed themselves or be able to do anything about it. I am considering downgrading to the 4 meg service which is all that I am currently receiving and saving the cost. Paul (Mac PowerBook, cable modem, in London) |
