xp 64bit

I am currently running 32bit windows on a 64bit cpu but want to use the 64bit version.

Does 32bit licences work on 64bit? I have a legit 32bit license but wondering if I can just get a 64bit iso and use it or will I require a new license.

Do all my drivers have to be 64bit?

Do 32bit apps work as normal? since not all apps are compiled in 64bit.

If yes to the above will they be slower then if on a normal 32bit os?

thanks

The 64bit version is a totally separate OS and as such requires a new licence.

Most 32-bit apps will work fine, some will not. It depends how deeply they are installed into the OS. There is a separate installation path and registry for 32-bit applications. If you are unsure whether an application will run on x64 then do a Google. There are usually some tweaks that can be done to make certain 32-bit apps run under 64-bit XP.

No. In some cases the 32-bit applications will perform better than under a 32-bit OS. Memory-constrained applications like CAD can take advantage of increased virtual memory in the x64 OS.

The best thing to do is Google and ask these questions in forums and newsgroups until you are comfortable that the x64 version is compatible with all of your hardware and any 32-bit applications that you need to run before taking the plunge (see also the compatibilty list at the top of this forum). Either that or you buy the x64 version, install it to a separate partition or drive and then just "suck it and see".
