Excel help required.
Hello.
Currently constructing an Excel spreadsheet to deal with a list of information sent over to various companies. What I need is for any text I type to be bound by the cell it is typed in so that it doesn't overlap next door if next door is empty. Ideally I would like the full text to appear in a box if you hover over the original cell. So. ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ Typed into: [ ][ ][ ][ ] Would appear as [ABCDEF][ ][ ][ ] Ideally, hovering over the first cell would show all the contents. Thanks a lot. |
Re: Excel help required.
AFAIK the only way to do it would be to put a space in the adjoining cell.
As for hovering over you would have to use a comment for that. |
Re: Excel help required.
You can format the cell as "Fill" instead of "General" (Format, Cells, Alignment in the menu).
That will stop it leaking over to the next cell. I didn't really understand the rest of what you're trying to do - what's with the [[[[ ]]]]? |

Re: Excel help required.
OK I understand now and I think I have it cracked.
Ignore my previous comment, format alignment as Left and Top (defaults to bottom). Then set it to wrap text. Finally set the height of the row so that you don't see the text that's wrapped. To get the comments to work you need to use a macro. Right click the worksheet tab and select "View Code" from the popup menu. Then paste in the following: Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) With Target(1) If .Comment Is Nothing Then .AddComment .Comment.Text CStr(.Value) End With End Sub Then close the Visual Basic editing window. From now on, every time you change the contents of a cell in the worksheet the comment will be updated for the rollover. The end result looks spot on to me, but PM me if you want the spreadsheet sample sending on. |

Re: Excel help required.
Thanks for your help. I'm sure it will work but don't have time to sort it at the moment.
Cheers. |
