Broadband & TV down - Manchester
Late last night my broadband and TV went off completely. It's still down now.
This is the third time in the week since the speed upgrade that I have had no service for the majority of an evening, and well into the next day. Some members may recall my comments about wishing my reliable 2mb service did not have to be upgraded to a potentially unreliable 4mb service. Now you know why! I am now paying ntl £24.99 per month for the privilege of accessing the internet via another company's 0845 dialup service! Reliable though the service may have been for many years, it now patently is not! Coupled with the excessive charges to contact faults (the line just advised me that I could expect to wait up to 20 mins....on an 0871 number!), I am starting to think the unthinkable and wondering if I'd be better trying out my BT line with ADSL (except that I don't really want one of those rubbish "up to 8mb" con tricks). As I said in the upgrade thread (several times) I do not see why the company had to rush these speed upgrades out when the network is obviously not able to cope with them. Having worked for the company, until last year, for several years, I know the folly of what I am about to say, however: I shall be writing to them this week requesting a refund for the time the service has been unavailable. The company have degraded my service themselves through their own incompetence, unfortunately. I require internet access that works. The industry as a whole is beginning to indicate to me that the only effective way to achieve this is via an unmetered dialup connection. Welcome to "broadband Britain" eh? |

Re: Broadband & TV down - Manchester
Well of course I don't even know if they are aware of the fault! The line says there's an outage in M24 and OL9, now I'm M18 but I do know often these outage messages DO apply to me even though the postcode doesn't match exactly.
However, for all I know the cable might have been cut or the cabinet damaged. But if they think I'm waiting for 20 minutes on an 0870 number to find out, they can guess again. I am away for the next couple of days, but it's still down when I return (which is unlikely) then I shall move to someone else forthwith. Given that I work for a broadband supplier that isn't going to be hard. |
Re: Broadband & TV down - Manchester
My TV and BB was down for a couple of hours last night 5:15 or there abouts. Rebooting only got Ld20 on the STB. CS were not available (although the recorded message said there was an outage in M30), but I called BB help and the girl said there were no issues. Before 7pm, everything was back up and running.
This was before the thunderstoms in the area, but I suppose there could have been a power overload somewhere along the line. Rick |
