Re: Charged For Premium Dial Up Services
I think you can hardly blame NTL for this, it is not their fault this has happened!
However had you been a customer with BT you could have had all premium rate numbers barred for free and this would not have happened. Maybe you should consider either paying NTL for a service that I think they should provide for free or get broadband. If you don't want to do those then go to BT and if you don't want to do that either then it's a case of put up and shut up and don't be supprised if this happens again! Sorry for the harsh words at the end but I think those are your options. :( |

Some advice from the icstis website (www.icstis.org.uk). You might be able to get a refund.

Your PC has dialled the premium rate number, and ntl have charged you for it. It's not that often I defend ntl, but you should just pay ntl what you owe them & then consider increasing the security on your PC &/or going to broadband-as already mentioned, you could (& should) get premium rate call barring on your line to prevent this happening again. Sorry-I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but it's pretty much the way it is. :welcome: to the site too. :) |
Re: Charged For Premium Dial Up Services
i just called ntl and they have taken the charges off... i just asked to be put through to the disconnections team and said that i wanted to cancel my phone line and ntl dial up service and the lady told me to wait a couple of minutes and said "this sort of thing happens all the time,.... we'll take off the £70 charge and you can just pay your line rental for the month"
GREAT!!! sorted!!! |

Whoever did that at ntl deserves the sack-why on earth are they letting you off paying what you owe? Sorry, but ntl deserve every bit of flack that they get. |

If the rules are breached, ICSTIS can order NTL not to take the money owed on the bill, and then not pay out to the operator of the dialler. NTL is not obliged to do any of this without a ruling from ICSTIS but I can understand, with the regulatory situation now a lot clearer than it used to be, why they would simply deal with it as they have here. The info is all in the PDF I posted above. ;) |

ntl themselves haven't investigated anything, they've just taken the easiest option without really giving it any thought. Cobblers, absolute cobblers....:td: |
Re: Charged For Premium Dial Up Services
i basically told the lady that my phone and dial up costs for the year (£16+à ƒÆ’‚£15 = £31 x 12 months = £334) will be a lot higher than my bill for £70 and that its up to her if she is happy for me to diconnect and go to another provider... with that in mind she waved the £70 charge.....
