Please can someone help with this one
Hi all here goes
I moved into a property 3 months ago and NTL transfered my services eventually, since i moved in i have received bills for the previous tenants on a weekly basis. I have rung up NTL constantly and been told just return it to us and they will stop they never stop. My wife accidentally opened one of the bills (Didn't look at the name) and it is for an obscene amount of money and the bills are still being charged, the previous occupants had 2 accounts in different names so i now get double the amount of bills. Ringing NTL doesnt have any effect they just quote the data protection act at me they refuse to take the previous occupants new address and they will simply not give up chasing this debt, the inference that i am lying and trying to dodge the bill is galling to say the least. So if anyone has any suggestions i am all ears which is more than NTL are, the last thing i want is collection agencys involved etc etc etc i really am tearing my hair out over this one. Many thanks....... |

Can you take a photcopy of any form of paperwork showing when you moved into the property? If so I would send a copy to NTL and show them that you only moved in on that date. Also supply the previous occupants address in the correspondence and inform NTL that if they continue to ignore the information you will contact CAB etc and will seek legal advice.

If the accounts aren't in your name, then there is not too much to worry about.
Simple take the unopened bills and write on the front "RETURN TO SENDER: NO LONGER AT THIS ADDRESS" and drop them in a post box. Ntl may get the idea, but they are right in what they have said about not letting you deal with the account because of the DPA |

if you know the tenant's new address then why not forward the bills to them...
