Noob to Routers

Ok - its a bold step into the uknown for me.

Ok heres the setup

1 laptop, decent specs.
1 Cranky old P something or other, running win 98.

I connect both via ethernet to 4mb (one day!) NTL broadband - currently one at a time as I have no Router.

What im looking to find out is how to actually go about setting up both systems to run from a router. Im not fussy about it being wireless and I would like to keep the costs down as im a tight **** :p: .. ok so im skint!

Ive found loads of different makes/models available, is there a massive difference and is there any one in particular thats better suited to NTL and/or my current set-up of systems?

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Its very simple just buy a 4 port broadband router with no modem.Plug modem to wan then to pcs to the switch using straight ethernet cable.Turn everything off then turn on modem wait till lights are steady.Turn on router wait till steady and swich on pcs job done :)
I would reccommend a linksys basic jobbie

Please don't start multiple threads about what is essentially the same subject. :)
