Moving my 1mb connection

Hi new to this forum.

I have moved my computer upstairs and have ntl broadband 1mb, and obviously i want to reconnect my internet, could someone advise how i can:

A) Cut the cable from the main ntl box, joint and then run it upstairs, can i use standard satelite cable?

B) How to joint from it's original location and run it up the wall

C) Could ntl do this work and would they charge me?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Stu.

i wouldnt cut any of the wires just incase you get signal problems
yes ntl would do the work for you and they would definately charge you for it
(i dont know how much).
i would sugest getting a wireless router and a wireless pci card or a usb stick for your computer. then all you would have to do is plug the ntl ethernet cable into the router then plug the stuff into your computer.

Thanks for your reply. I will look into it, this possibly sounds like the better idea.

If you tamper with the cable and get it even slightly wrong you can impact not only your signal but the signal of anyone fed from your cab. It's not worth the problems it will cause you. Go wireless and you will also be helping to future proof your setup should you move the PC again.

Just get a connector and some Sat cable then run it where you want to, your not cutting the cable in any way therfore NTL won't bother you.

Sat cable isnt anywhere as good as the cable that should be used therefor some loss and degradation is always possible, plus there is a chance that this could cause problems for his neighbours and if they traced it back to him, they would charge him the costs or cut off his service regardless of wether he cut the cable or not.

I would avoid messing with the main cable as that can cause further problems.

You can however use Ethernet cable and leave your NTL modem where it is and then just use a long cable to your computer.
I have one going from downstairs into my attic. As long as you keep it under 100 metres you should have no issues.

Alternatively if you dont like wires, go wirelesss with a Wifi PCI card in a spare PCI slot in your PC and then put a Wireless router connected to you modem.

If you wanted NTL to change the connection point for you they would charge you.
