New speeds all over the place

OK - got back from holidays to find upgrade to 4Mb in place and speeds test gave nice steady results - around 3.8. Then it downgraded back to 2Mb yesterday. Today it is back up to 4Mb but speeds are all over the place - below is typical:

1st 512K took 1352 ms = 378.7 KB/sec, approx 3120 Kbps, 1.20 Mbps
2nd 512K took 1723 ms = 297.2 KB/sec, approx 2449 Kbps, 2.39 Mbps
3rd 512K took 1772 ms = 288.9 KB/sec, approx 2381 Kbps, 1.80 Mbps
4th 512K took 1272 ms = 402.5 KB/sec, approx 3317 Kbps, 3.24 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 2817 Kbps, 2.16 Mbps

Should I be concerned? or is this just a teething trouble thing. Why was it 3.9 and steady earlier, before downgrade/upgrade but dodgy now?

About the same here... it's a free upgrade so I won't moan.... unless it drops below the 2Mbps level....
