Small Prob with STB
 

Hi, (first post, so be nice lol)
Have a problem with the stb, think it's a Pace 4001 N ?? if that rings a bell !!!
My old stb had issues and was replaced by a ntl engineer, trouble is he set it up different than it was before for some reason, now it's a pain swapping to analogue and back. Before all you needed to do was use stb remote, turn off stb and you where straight onto the analogue channels.
Now when you do that you only get a blue screen, then have to use tv remote and select from there.
You could switch tv on in a morning and it could be on normal analog bbc1, you then get stb remote switch on and it swapped straight to the digital channels.
I'd like to get it back as it was, but when I rang ntl to say the engineer did not set-it up as before, they said it would cost £25 to get the guy to call to change it :(, and he screwed it up in the first place.

Another little thing we notice, not a problem though, you press mute now on remote and nothing happens other than the mute icon on screen, but sound stays on lol.

A little advice on the first stb problem would be appreciated ty.

Check all the leads are fully seated on the STB and the TV. The auto switching of the TV detecting the STB is on can be tempermental. Some days my TV detects my STB some days it doesn't.

Just a thought but when you press mute on the remote it only mutes the sound coming out of the TV scart socket and not the socket which should be connected to a video recorder. The fact that the sound is not actually being muted makes me wonder if the scart lead to the TV has been plugged into the right socket on the back of the set-top box. It would probably be worth checking-I can't remember which socket it is (bottom one I think on a samsung) but they are clearly marked.

A couple of ideas Iceman,

Did the service tech change the scart lead as well as the STB? I may be wrong but I seem to recall someone mentioning that some of the scart leads being used now do not have the control pin connected which would mean that the TV will never see the auto switch signalling.

Following on from what Jem said as well as audio issues the socket for the VCR does not contain the signaling so if the leads are connected the wrong way round th TV will never switch.

Lastly go into to the settings menu on the STB (press guide then move the curser box until settings on the top right corner is selected ;) ) select visual setting and ensure that the scart control is set to on, if it already is then set it to off come out of the menus switch the STB to standby switch it back on and then reset the scart control back to on.

As Rob says somtimes they can be a bit flakey but that will normally reset it.

Mute does not work if the scart going to the TV is in the top slot on the NTL STB. This is so that if you are recording from ntl, the sound is always recorded. Swap the scart leads around on the back the STB. ie. top to bottom slot and vice versa. This will solve both of your problems. :)

Hi, the guy just unpluged the old stb and connected a new one to the leads I had there. Mute is not a prob I'm worried about btw.
Just want to be able to use the ntl remote to get onto the digital channels like I did before, like this, I turned tv on, of course analog channel first on switch-on, then I just picked up the ntl remote, pressed the ON button and it changed to the digital side of things, then If I turned off the stb it was straight onto analog bbc 1.
As things stand I can't do that.

Swap the scarts on the back of the STB, top to bottom and bottom to top.
