8MB for Telewest?

BT are upgrading all their broadbanders from 2MB to 8MB at no extra cost. Will Telewest keep up with BT does anyone know?

Most BT customers wont get anywhere near 8 meg.You can get 4 meg which you should get or 10 meg which also you stand a good chance of getting. Also If your with bt and your going onto the BT max they hit you with a new 12 month contract

A mate of mine in Essex last year was upgraded with BT from 0.5MB to 2MB for no extra cost and they're now upgrading him to 8MB for no extra cost either. Great deal, better than what we're getting! :dozey:

Lets not forget with BT you only get upto 40gb of download each months
if you go over that you have to pay for it. most of adsl isp internet providers do not give unlimited internet access

BT sucks, and the whole ADSL technology sucks. DOCSIS for the win

To be honest, Im amazed that ADSL holds together as well as it does! So it's certainly not bad technology and doesn't "suck"

Lets just make this clear, yes, people are getting upgraded to up to 8Mbps but:

- Most customers will only get around 4Mbps, some unlucky ones will get only 512K.
- BT Have a 40GB usage limit on their £29.99 package, if you go over, even by 10MB you'll have to pay £5 or more.
- BT traffic shape, ntl & telewest don't.

I think ntl/telewest are giving a good deal in my eyes, unless you live close to your exchange and can get your max 8Mbps.

A lot of LLU ISP's are offering upto 24Mbps over ADSL2+ now and BT are only just upgrading their customers to 8Mbps, and yet they're supposed to be the best ADSL ISP in the country? I don't get it.

Also, didn't Telewest say that 50 to 100Mbps was looking like a reality towards the end of 2006?

Who said BT were the best ADSL ISP in the country? I find that hard to believe ;)

Also worth mentioning that BT are subject to restrictions LLU operators aren't.

Telewest can say what they want, I'm not interested in speculation or what could be a reality towards the end of 2006. Until we see a rollout plan for the DOCSIS 3 services I'll consider it vapourware.

Oh and having worked with both DOCSIS and DSL they both have their good points and until DOCSIS 3 is a live proposition DSL still has the speed advantage for short loops, and the advantage of dedicated bandwidth to the DSLAM where DOCSIS is a 100% shared architecture up to uBR.

BTW DSL's distance 'issues' aren't a result of DSL itself just the laws of physics, cable would have similar issues if it weren't for the amplifiers in the network. This could be done for DSL as well but isn't really viable.

Where is your rock?
Need help lifting it back up. Telewest started to offer 10mb in some areas from Sept 2005 and finally finishing all areas by April 2006
