Samsung 2110c Picture Problems
Hi everyone,
A couple of days ago, my stb was changed from the old Pace to the new Samsung one as I had upgraded my broadband, however, there seems to be a problem with the picture. The Pace was a good set top box that I'd had for many years and it gave a bright, sharp crisp picture. The picture with the new Samsung box isn't very good. The image seems to have lost approx 30% brightness, the colours are dull and im not sure what is wrong ?? Also some of the channels are very pixelated. Phoned NTL a number of times. New signals were sent to the box, that din't help. Reset the box didn't help.An engineer from NTL is coming out next week to see what can be done. Incidently, I have a TV that has a built in freeview box, and when comparing the same image from the NTL box to the freeview, the difference in picture quality is very noticeable. Any ideas ?? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks :) Polo |

Thanks Sarah for your reply.
An engineer has already been booked for next week. I also think that its the box itself. Will contact NTL for a refund for the days of lost viewing due to poor picture !!!! |
Re: Samsung 2110c Picture Problems
Hi,
Make sure the STB is connected directly to the TV. Also try changing the STB output from RGB to Composite, or the other way round. Do you have a flat panel TV by any chance? |
Re: Samsung 2110c Picture Problems
Hi Mikey, thanks for your reply.
I have a high end CRT. The difference between in built Freeview box and NTl definitely shows a big difference. As I said previously, had the Pace box for many years, no problems ?? It seems that all the output signal is not showing up in the picture ?? |

Do flat panels make a difference?

I find the settings of the STB are more critical for flat panel TV's and they seem to work better with an RGB input and the STB set to 16:9. They will also magnify any digital pixellation on the original broadcast. Your comments please! |

Stuff through the aerial looks fine though, it seems to be able to interpolate that better. |

Thats interesting... My mothers had a Thomson Wysius Plasma for the past 4 years(ish). Its allways given a beautifull picture from the stb (was cable, now Sky+). My father has recently purchased a Samsung LCD of roughly the same size - and the picture sucks from his Sky box. Interestingly enough, when you go to the DNIe demo in the menu, it splits the pic, one half w/ DNIe, one w/o. Waaaay better without for the STB - But no way of turning it off.:dozey: |

Re: Samsung 2110c Picture Problems
Hi thanks to everybody who replied to my post.
An NTL engineer has been and has said that the Cabling outside is old and needs replacing. He said that I should then notice a difference in picture quality. As I said previously, it seems that some of the signal is being lost somewhere !!!. :wavey: |
Re: Samsung 2110c Picture Problems - Update
Hi everyone.
After the cable re-pull, was still not happy with the picture. The picture kept on freezing and the overall brightness did not improve. Phoned NTL who arranged for an engineer to visit today. The engineer has been and was very helpful. Brilliant infact. He straightaway understood what the potential problem was and changed the box back to the original Pace. The picture is now 100%, Bright and vibrant. Perhaps the internal settings of component/rgb are different between the Pace/Samsung boxes, as when the Samsung box was put in rgb mode from component, the picture darkened up. When the Pace box is put into RGB mode, the picture brightness remains the same ???? Anyway problem now sorted. Thanks for everyones help. |
