Clever Marketing???

Like a lot of other cable modem users in my area, I have been experiencing dropped/no connection issues over the last few weeks. Have called Tech Support several times. At the end of each call I am told "as compensation, NTL will upgrade your service to 2mb, FREE for 1 month. If after this month you decide to keep it, NTL will bill you just £7 extra".

Oh yea!! Who's leg are NTL trying to pull? How many customers will agree to this FREE upgrade then forget to let NTL know that they wish to discontinue the service after 1 month. NTL are not going to be very helpful by phoning all customers that have agreed to this 'compensation' and ask them if they wish to continue with the upgraded speed. Leaving it to the customer to remember is relying on their customers being lazy/forgetful and never making that call, thus providing NTL will 'a nice little earner!'

Needless to say, I declined.

As it happens, I was awaiting the engineer (for the second time in two days) when I posted my message. When he arrived he told me the problem lies in the green box 'down the road'. If I understand what he said correctly, there are too many users for the bandwidth and the signal is weak. Apparently another engineer was working on the same fault in another green box on the estate where I live.

The thought also entered my mind as I refused the 'compensation'
