Connection Issues Scunthorpe

http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/4381/ntl0wp.jpg

This is what i have been getting for nearing 3 months now, a huge ping to one of the NTL servers, which crashes all of my programs that use a net connection.

I have had 4 calls to NTL regarding the problem, they even sent a technician out who confirmed the problem was not at my end, and yet the problem has still not been fixed.

Since taking the screenshot the same server ping grew to 596...

Also you can see another hop along the way is getting packet loss.

So what do i do? Is there a way to get NTL to actually fix the problem, or will my net just stay like this forever? Because if that's so, i need to look for a new ISP

Really starting to bug me now, been having to use a download manager just to get my http downloads incase they timed out!

My advice is to switch to another ISP

I'm hoping one of the lovely NTL people will read my post and advise :D

Re: Connection Issues Scunthorpe

ive had alot of issues for the last few months, high pings and packet loss.

Ive spoken to NTL a few times but they insist there is nothing wrong in the scunny area.
Despite this myself and 4 or 5 other people have the same issues.
The only thing you can do is get another engineer out and call the cancelations line, they seem to be far more helpful than tech support.

To be honest im going to see if anything gets better of the next few weeks if not im leaving for an adsl supplier.

Ahh A thread I can post oh - Yer !!!

Apart from the thread I made a few months back, I switched to 10mbit as a TEMP test to see if it sorted my problems out and indeed it did. I have not seen any problems since as you described and I def live in the same area - though we may be on a different box. I will soon see if the problem comes back when I Downgrade to 2/4mbit (whatever it is these days) on 1st June.

Personally - the people of Scunny can get both ADSL & Cable Modem, so in your shoes, if youve had enough, I would switch. I am *very* close to jumping ship for some time now, clinging on to NTL for Dear life as they say - so your not alone in your problems !!

Maybe if some more people in the Scunthorpe area can post, we can get the thread passed on via some/one of the NTL Employees who post here, and maybe then it might be fixed, a mini-petition, you may say.

Umm ok.

What exactly is wrong with the trace?

The techs that make home visits aren't really qualified to troubleshoot PC issues so they aren't really qualified to confirm that PCs are working fine.

72.14.236.196 doesn't belong to ntl, in any case there's no packet loss behind it so no problem.

Zero packet loss to google itself, average ping 45 minimum 44, nice and pretty stable from where I'm sitting.

I presume you're talking about nott-t2core-b. Fairly normal behaviour from a Cisco router I'm afraid, rest of the trace shows it is ok.

Not saying you don't have a fault somewhere but that trace doesn't show one.

to be honest it seems to be a random fault that comes and goes.
when i was on the phone to NTL 1st or 2nd time they acknowledged a problem, other times they couldnt see anything wrong.

There deffinately seems to be packet loss, somewhere and the nott-2t-core shows high pings, today browsings seems fine but not tried any gaming yet.

whats the best way to diagnose packet loss?

:) Hi seen this loads of times In Scunny and Grimsby this has been reported to those above .When you have a good connection the traffic does not go this way .80.1.79.73 some friends of mine who are gamers tell me when the traffic is routed this way as they get high packet loss:td: and my phone keeps ringing:D It always seems to be te 3rd hop on the Ntl network

;) Hi we keep sending emails to our manager who keeps contacting the people in the know :tu: They are suppost to be looking at it as it affects part of Grimsby as well.We keep getting sent out to these jobs and there is nothing we can do as it a core network problem. If only those people who take the call could escalete them to the revlent depatment it would get fixed a lot faster :tu: I will speak to my manager to see what he has had sent back :tu:
