Linksys WRT54G Connection Drops
Hi there,
I've had a strange problem with my Linksys WRT54G router for about 6 months and it's now starting to really annoy me. I have my pc and and xbox 360 cabled into the router. I do not run anything off it wirelessly. Every so often (maybe every other day) and at completely random times my connection will drop. Rebooting my pc/xbox/both wont help and I am left with nothing else to do but reset my router. This makes me lose any settings & passwords I have. Because of this, I now cant be bothered to set up any passwords. This has happened when I have been just using my pc, just using my xbox and also when I have been using both. Does anyone have any idea's as to what I can do? Many thanks |
Re: Linksys WRT54G Connection Drops
Are you using the standard Linksys firmware?
What speed broadband do you have? Doesn't powercycling the modem and router clear it? The only reset that should clear passwords is a factory reset (button at the back). Is it left on 24x7 and is it well ventilated? |

Yes - Standard firmware, I've never touched anything else. I have 10mb BB. I'm afraid I dont know what powercycling is, but I currently use the factory reset (use a biro or matchstick to push the button on the back for about 20 seconds) to get everything working. It is left on 24/7, though ventilation could be slightly better i guess. It sits on my laminate floor against a wall. |
Re: Linksys WRT54G Connection Drops
Powercycling as in 'unplug mains supply', either at wall or pulling out power connector from the back ;) That should clear any connection issue.
My wrt54g doesn't (touch wood) have any issues on 2Mb NTL. Next time, try browsing to the router admin page - this should show whether the router is hung or just the connection. Then try unpluging the Cable Modem followed by the router. HTH |
