Constant connection attempts from different IP addresses and ports???
Can anyone have a look at my router log below and explain it.
It appears that there are lots of IP addresses trying to connect to my IP address on various ports. My router is working in that is Drops the attempt but why I'm I being bombarded with these connection attempts? Should NTL be blocking all these before they even get to me? Would all these connection attempts have an impact on the speed of my connection? Should I ask NTL to give me a different IP address and would it even make a difference if they did or do all NTL IP addresses get spammed with connections attempts like this? Thanks for any answers you can provide, Anthony Router Log May/22/2006 21:12:39 Drop UDP packet from WAN 68.73.125.147:32459 to 81.106.xxx.xxx:62507 Rule: Default deny May/22/2006 21:12:15 Drop TCP packet from WAN 212.227.92.125:80 to 81.106.xxx.xxx:61606 Rule: Default deny May/22/2006 21:12:14 Drop UDP packet from WAN 85.11.157.63:11369 to 81.106.xxx.xxx:62608 Rule: Default deny May/22/2006 21:12:13 Drop UDP packet from WAN 59.104.212.231:64857 to 81.106.xxx.xxx:60227 Rule: Default deny May/22/2006 21:11:41 Drop UDP packet from WAN 221.135.193.196:6881 to 81.106.xxx.xxx:62507 Rule: Default deny May/22/2006 21:11:21 Drop UDP packet from WAN 85.226.177.69:17548 to 81.106.xxx.xxx:60227 Rule: Default deny May/22/2006 21:11:11 Drop TCP packet from WAN 212.227.92.125:80 to 81.106.xxx.xxx:61606 Rule: Default deny May/22/2006 21:10:47 Drop UDP packet from WAN 24.70.159.11:33613 to 81.106.xxx.xxx:62507 Rule: Default deny May/22/2006 21:10:44 Drop UDP packet from WAN 81.104.52.35:10986 to 81.106.xxx.xxx:60227 Rule: Default deny May/22/2006 21:10:40 Drop TCP packet from WAN 216.115.209.254:8200 to 81.106.xxx.xxx:61663 Rule: Default deny |
Re: Constant connection attempts from different IP addresses and ports???
do you use peer to peer software? specifically bit torrent?
|
Re: Constant connection attempts from different IP addresses and ports???
I bet that's what it is. The last torrent tracker you connected to never released your IP address and is sending the swarm your way.

Re: Constant connection attempts from different IP addresses and ports???
Yes I have used bit torrent, but have not used it for a day or two now.
Can I stop it or will it just stop itself eventually? |
Re: Constant connection attempts from different IP addresses and ports???
it will stop itself eventually, it isn't anything to worry about though really.
the connection attempt on port 6881 was the give away ;) Your firewall is doing it's job and blocking the connection attempts anyway |
Re: Constant connection attempts from different IP addresses and ports???
cheers, thanks for the help.

32459 was the giveaway to me, sounds like uTorrent.
