Network connection busy when PC idle

Hi all,

I have a wireless router/telewest modem setup and am using a USB 'dongle' on my main PC to connect to the network and Internet.

What's annoying me, and worrying me, is that although I can have no programs open that connect to the Internet, the network connection icon in the tray is constantly flashing and or solid. The LED on the dongle is also flashing away as if there's heavy Internet usage.

What can I do to find out what's causing this? Is it something to worry about? I regularly check for spyware and viruses and have Zonealarm installed but nothing comes up on searches.

Here's hoping someone can help!

G.

It'll be the network keeping sync, mine does it all the time. Just refreshing its list of clients and keeping them all in check so to speak.

How odd that just as I read your post, the network connection icon stopped flashing :Yikes:

Cheers though! I hoped it wasn't anything too serious...

Run Netstat from a command prompt.

I stopped hacking...err....

Seriously if you're a little concerned still then you could run netstat and look throught rhe connections for anythign unusual (you can post the results here fir us to try and look) you could even run arp -a then post the results of that here and we can see what you're connected to as well.
