Connection Problem - D-Link 524 & NTL Home 200 CM
Anyone know what the problem might be?
I have a a PC ( XP Pro + sp2) connected to a NTL Home 200 CM and everything works fine, as soon as I add a D-Link 524 router I find I can't access the routers confi screen in IE or get access to the Internet. I have pinged the router with sucess I have tried to release the IP address that I currently have but windows won't allow it, saying its an ivalid IP address. In Network Connections I have an PPPOE icon which has a round white circle with a black tick inside, has this anything to do with me not being able to conect to the router to set it up? I also have another icon which relates to the NIC I have installed in the PC, and that seems fine. Any ideas as to what may be wrong. |

Reboot the modem (Power cycle it, whichevcer term you're more familiar with) with the router connected. Power on the router. Leave for about a minute or so, then try again connecting to the router.

Has the PC ever been used on an ADSl connection? PPPOE is mainly an ADSL technology. It 'might' be causing a problem. Can you disable it (right click on icon)? Do you have any ADSL connection software installed - if so try uninstalling it?
What IP address is assigned to the NIC? Go into DOS ('Start', 'Run', "CMD") and type ipconfig /all Let us know the results. |
Re: Connection Problem - D-Link 524 & NTL Home 200 CM
The PC has never been used for ADSL, in fact it has only just been reformatted, and still this PPPOE icon appeared. So we got rid of it by deleting it and so far hasn't come back, but we still can't access the router.
The motherboard has one itegrated lan which for some odd reason refused to give up its IP address (86.21.44.149), as we had installed a seperate D-Link NIC. Finally after disabling it we have managed to get the NIC card to get an IP address from the router (192.168.0.186), but we still can't access the router to set it up. We have tried ipconfig /all but all we got was a quick flash of text and then a blank screen, so no help there. We are now wondering if its a pronlem with the router. |

how are you running Ipconfig /all ?
Try it form command prompt, not the run dialog box. |
