Belkin wirless adapter to Apple mairport problems
Help! This is driving me mad.
I got a belkin wirless adapter on a PC running win 2000. I've gone through the set up and if the on screen stuff is to be believed it successfully recgonises the Apple airport extreme wirless station at 82%+ strength but won't give me an internet connection. I know this must be a simple setting issue. I have An Apple ibook laptop that has no trouble. I've taken the router out of the network but the symptoms are the same. Can anyone point me in the right direction..please! I'm a little unfamilar with PC settings (where to find the and terminology) and know I've been spoiled with a mac so try and be sympathetic. thanks everyone out there. Lozza |
Re: Belkin wirless adapter to Apple mairport problems
Belkin wireless cards can be a little temperamental over whether they will acquire an IP or not ... the first and simplest thing to try is to manually force windows to release and re-acquire an IP address:
Start > Run > type 'cmd' (without the ' ') > type 'ipconfig /release' > wait > type 'ipconfig /renew' > wait All being well, the laptop should acquire an IP address in the 192.x.x.x range from the Airport base station, and all will work from then on. I frequently have to go through this process when trying to get onto my own network, and that's with a Belkin router as well as a Belkin card. |

As for the beer ... we can share a virtual beer with the whole forum. I've learned most of what I know about PC tips and tricks from the other members here. As a Mac user, PCs can sometimes be a mystery to me too. ;) |
