The Prisoner to return to TV

According to El Reg (quite why it's posted there is beyond me, but ne'er mind), former Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston has been "linked" with the lead role in a remake of The Prisoner.

I hope this is true. Let's just hope they don't f*** it up.

If they manage that, then it'll be cool. I used to watch this when I was little :)

I have to admit it is some thing that I never watched as I didn't reckon much to it but I know a lot of people will be happy that it is coming back

Oh no not again..Has everyone with any imagination left the TV business? Are they so devoid of any creativity that they have to try and resurrect every TV programme from the last 30 years?

If they are going to spend money on making new programmes rather than reshow the originals why not make absolutely spanking, brand new shows?

What, like Dream Team? Or Brainiac? Sorry, but 'good programme ideas' and 'BSkyB' are mutually exclusive concepts. The best they can hope to do is to raid television history and come up with re-makes. Presumably the established 'brands' like BSG are more bankable. In fact, Sky has said as much, likening this to the resurrection of Doctor Who. The main difference here, of course, is Doctor Who gets over 8 million viewers, this will be lucky to top 800,000.

Like 24, the new series will entrap you from the opening scene. We hope it will tap into this iconic show's existing cult following, whilst creating a whole new generation of fans.

Yeah, right. It may well tap into the existing following, but so long as it's only shown on Sky it stands a snowball's chance in hell of creating a whole new generation of anything. They're wasting their time.

Nope, he's likely to get worried about the production schedule, typecasting and anorak fans after a couple of weeks on set. :erm: :D
