wireless access point - problems connecting
 

I have NTL broadband with 1Mb broadband.

I have connected a Belkin wireless access point and all the LED lights on it are OK. It has been connected direct into the back of the set top box.

I have messed about with my laptop and I think i have searched and found the wireless signal. The SSID is WLAN. I am not 100% sure if its the access point or if its some wireless i have some how set up on my PC!!

Any ideas what I can do.

I have set up a wireless router before. Unfortunately with a wireless access point i cannot plug wire direct into it.

When using netstumbler when it shows the wireless signal its got the padlock symbol. I guess i need to go to the control panel. I assume this should be OK connecting to it using wireless

Not sure a Wireless Access Point will work in this instance. The STB may well be seeing the WAP as the connected device (computer) and cannot see past the WAP to your wireless computer. A WAP does not have any ability to issue IP addresses so in itself doesn't know where to forward information to.

Take the WAP back and get a wireless router.

i just talked to my workmate who i got the access point from and said it properly wont work since the STB isnt a router as such.

there may be a spare router around at work that i could connect to the STB and then plug the access point into that and see if it works.

still not decided if really want wireless since only live in a small apartment but it would be cool to have. i may just buy a wireless router from pc world and try it out and return it if its not worth having
