Some people CMs
Why is it that some people have a Cable modem even when they have a set top box?
Because i want a cable modem as it seems to be more reliable but i have cable tv, i have an engineer coming in a few weeks to change my stb for the upgrade from 1mb to 2mb, if i ask would he/she give me a cable modem next to my pc which is upstairs from my current stb. |
Re: Some people CMs
Generally because they're on a tier that their STB won't support. I had (and still have) a Pace box; when I wanted to move up from 1Mb to 2Mb, the Pace box wouldn't have handled it and the Samsung STBs were in very short supply. So they gave me a SACM as well.
I guess that if you're on an STB and want to sign up for 10Mb, they ought to give you a SACM; don't know if they will, though. There's much talk of having to pay for one... :-( Oh, and welcome to the forum, Adcuz! ;-) |
Re: Some people CMs
There are also some of us who didn't have the choice :)
IIRC for the first few years NTL's STB's didn't have built in cable modems (when I signed up we had to pay something like £150 and buy our modem from the approved dealer). These days as patrickp says it's likely to be because people are on speeds the STB's don't support, or I guess people for whom an STB's modem has been problematic :) |
