Silly high pings in Joint Ops

Hi,

Sorry if this has been posted in the wrong place but since I got my BB fitted (1mb line, cable modem) I've been unable to play Joint Ops online.
When I used to go there pings on the servers would be about 80-400 but are now in the 3000-4500 ping range, and this makes it just impossible to play on.

Everything else about the net works fine though and my firewall is set up to let the game through. Any ideas?

Which firewall are you using? As although it may be letting the game through it could be scanning every packet sent, which, would slow it down.

Post a copy of the tracert to the server so people can see where its going wrong.

How do you do a tracert? :o:

I have the NTL netguard running + Zone alarm + Nvidia nforce4 antihacking switched on.

It might be something else, or it could just be "welcome to ntl". :(

Re: Silly high pings in Joint Ops

If you are using windows XP go to

click on Start > then click on run
A window pops up make sure it has CMD then click ok

now a black box pops up type after where it says

C:\Documents and Settings \ yourname> tracert put the ip number for the server you play on and press enter this will start to do a trace to the IP number you put in.

To copy and paste it you need to put your mouse over the small icon in the blue bar of the box infront of where it has C:\WINDOWS and click it then go down until you have
Edit > move to side as another small box opens and select mark.
Now highlight the tracert and press enter.

you have now copied to clipboard the tracert when you reply her just right click and click on paste.

Simpler way of tracert.
(It saves it to a file so you can just copy paste normally etc...

In a command prompt type
Code:

tracert bbc.co.uk > c:\tracert.txt
My guess is that Netguard and Zone Alarm are conflicting with eachother, and then, obviously slowing things down. Does it happen on any other game? And have you tried diasbling them both then playing ?

Try uninstalling Zone Alarm as disabling it has been proven not to be enough. My Zone Alarm used to be fine until i installed an update for it then my connection went tits up. I now don't use ZA. :)

From what I can tell it looks ok, and I can play Halo online with no problems at all, I think its the game not liking the proxy I'm coming from :/

That trace is fine, and gaming does not go through any proxies. I dont have Joint Ops to try but is there a Network Setup option?

Quick thought, but hasn't the nvidia anti-hacking/firewall protection caused a lot of problems with some games?

I ask because I remeber reading about it a while back on some gaming forums, although it's possible that the problems have been sorted out with an update.

Hmm, I'll try turning it off and see what happens...
