Wireless Modem/Router

What would be the best wireless modem/router to use with an NTL Phone connection ?

Any suggestions ?

Thanks

I like the Linksys WRT54G, it's nice and easy to set-up and is rock solid..... plus Linksys has been bought by Cisco, and Cisco make bloomin' great network kit.

...by the way, it's just a wireless router, so you'd need to plug your cable modem into it.

By the way :welcome: to the site.
When you sign up for an NTL broadband connection they will give you a modem that is registered to your address and for you to use. No other modems will work.

So all you need now is a router. As Gareth has said, Linksys do good routers. Just make sure it says its a cable router and not one with built in ADSL modem as those wouldnt work.

I should have asked advice on here first. I ordered this from amazon on thursday night http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...535210-3128669 will that work ok? I know next to nothing about setting these things up, and i hope there is an idiots guid to setting it up in the box. :)

That should work fine. Just skimmed the spec and it all looks OK.

Granted, but they were better before Cisco took over sadly - Cisco have stripped down the new WRT54G and made it run VXWorks instead of Linux. :disturbd:

But I have a WRT54GS just bought recently - I can play with it like I'd like to, but it's rock solid all the same.

Take a look at PC World - they've got a USB adaptor and WRT54GS bundle for £50 at the moment.. bargain! :)

Thanks for the help, much appreciated. The router is actually for my neice.
I run a Linksys router well i think its about the same as you reccomend but for ADSL lines.

Maybe you can help some more.......... I used to run a peer to peer network without a wireless router.... Since I got my wireless router is comes up as an access point, Before I used to have 4 PC's in the house networked and accessing each others files and stuff, since It changed to an access point I cant get into any PC from each other If you know what i mean........Im sure if i spent a bit of time on it i'd sort it out but hey im a lazy git and thought while im here i may as well ask..... How do i get all 4 PC's to share stuff again ?

Cheers again

Paul
