NTL & BitTorrent

Does anyone have any good tips on getting good speeds while downloading torrents on BitTorrent (uTorrent)?

I used to get 200KB/s sometimes faster, now only get 15KB/s-30KB/s if that.

My ZoneAlarm is set to medium and i've fully allowed uTorrent. I've set XP SP2 to 50 connections, i'm not able to test if my ports are fine because of NTLs lame proxys.

"Warning! Port 32459 can not be checked. Your browser is setup to connect through a proxy. This script will not work through proxied connections."

from experience, all depends on where you are leeching from, public sites are usually a lot slower than private trackers. private trackers, the really good ones have tons of seeders and leechers with very good connections that can upload at a fast rate, as opposed to public trackers where anybody can upload and where most of the best uploaders do not go.

At the mo ntl aren't traffic shaping so it doesn't really make much odds what you do I'm afraid. Try different trackers perhaps :)

options/preferences/network enable encryption and allow legacy connections seems to work for quite a few people.

people are geting past the traffic shaping now by using Transport Encryption or Protocol Encryption on there download managers. It works also.

The encryption prevents your ISP from listening on your bit torrent ports and employing traffic shaping techniques to limit your torrent bandwidth.

Are trackers the same as clients?

Not really - the ambit 100 & 120's don't do 10 meg very well, try reducing your torrent max connections as well, as I recall the 100's tend to give up when too many connections are established through them.
