Baguely/Stockport (SK8 ish) Speed Poll
 

Hi

As I reported in another post, I'm getting nowhere near 10mb on my connection. While broswing another thread, I noticed a couple of others in my area mention that they had speed "issues".

Anyone able to confirm if a) they're a tech and there's something wrong in this area, or b) they're in this area and do/don't get 10 mb?

Baguley here, been up and down all day.
tests show from 3 to 8 meg

I always get crappy surfing speed off the Baguley proxy during 6pm and 9pm, so I have to change. Yet downloading is always spot on 2mb.

Baguley here, same usual crappy speeds via speed tests on the whole, but never noticably bad generally.

Download speeds seem to be pretty consistent (1mb/s +), regardless of the speed tests but it's been like this since day 1.

1mbps is not bad these days:

4th 512K took 4290 ms = 119.3 KB/sec, approx 983 Kbps, 0.96 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 972 Kbps, 0.95 Mbps

Bill C says elsewhere on here that we are getting upgraded soon.

I have 2mb in the same area and it's always perfect. As far as I can tell anyway. The speed test on here and elsewhere always tells me my speed equastes to 1.9mbps, good enough for me.

CHeers one and all - I think I may have isolated my problem (but feel free to continue posting speeds ;) )

Turns out my modem was using the wrong config file, according to the tech, so he re-applied the upgrade. Unfortunately, he did say that it may also be due to my modem just being too old and flaky, so a new one may be required.

The upgrade patch made no difference so I called back tonite, and have a house call on monday with a new modem.

I guess my only gripe now, is that the first guy told me that in a 5min phone call, and the "overseas" lass this evening insisted on re-running all the speed tests (abt 20mins) only to come back and say "I think we need to send you a tech...." - Now I understand they have to be diligent, but that took the mickey a little as I'd already done all that once...........

I guess what also galls me is that they made a point of putting a note on my file about the one time I had 18 open netstat connections on a support call ("Oh yes sir, you're the one with the 18 open connections"), but they don't log what they've told me, so I have to prove it all over again,.....
