Has NTL Changed its password policy?

The Background
As I continue to get less than (avg) 4mbs 24/7 I though now was the time to relook at the problem. I work from home and check the speed periodically with various tools - not record over 4mbs... I've even built a clean machine, set idendical MAC addresses, turn off the fire wall and still made no progress... I listen to BBC7 online during the day and Realplayer often detects a change in speed and requests I retest the link

My immediate problem
I've not connected to the Cable Modem this year so 192..... as always it prompted for an ID. root / root - admin / admin both falied. Has NTL changed it's policy?
A typical Speed test
1st 128K took 952 ms = 137681 Bytes/sec = approx 1146 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 240 ms = 546133 Bytes/sec = approx 4544 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 281 ms = 466448 Bytes/sec = approx 3881 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 3104 ms = 42227 Bytes/sec = approx 351 kbits/sec

Keep well everyone

Which cable modem was it? I think there is one that requires a reboot before you can access the config data.

I'll give that ago - although I've not had to reboot it before.
Many thanks

Having the same problem.

Previosuly I could simply log into my 250 modem using the root/root username/password. No reboot required.

Now when I try to view the config pages, nothing happens, not even a login prompt. It almost looks like this feature has been disabled?

check to see if you have set a proxy in your browser. If you have then you will not be able to login to the modem. My 250 is fine here in swinton.
