'Fresh', VODed stateside content?
I know Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢m living in dream land here, butââ‚Âà ‚¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚¦.what are the chances of NTL:Telewest of purchasing the rights to show †˜freshâà ¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€Å ¾Ã‚¢ stateside programs on VOD the day after that programme has aired?
Take FOXââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s 24 †“ it would be nice if we could see last nightââ‚ƚ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s stateside episode. People would pay for it too, especially those who donââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t know how to erm, †˜acquireâà ƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚¬Ã¢â€à …¾Ã‚¢ those episodes via broadband. I know that for 24, its unlikely to happen (I think Sky have brought all the UK rights for that show), but for other shows, it could be worth a shot and would make VOD even more of a killer-app for cable. Imagine the advertising for it, †œWatch †˜freshâà ¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€Å ¾Ã‚¢ House, NCIS, and Greys Anatomy †“ direct from the states, only on VODââ‚Âà ‚¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â. |

Yes that would be a great selling point and usage for VoD, but I don't think we'll ever see it unfortunately for the reasons you pointed out... $KY!

Grey Anatomy and CSI both air first on Living, so I think they are on Teleport and no doubt coming to ntl: on demand as the merger progresses.
Its more about who has the uk rights to a broadcast rather than the programmes themselves. |
