10 Meg Broadband - really only 2 meg downloads
 

Hi,
Wondering if anyone could help using the terayon tj 210 modem on 10 meg broadband, all the speed test i have doen all are really quite low for what i should be getting.....

Here is the results

1st 512K took 2359 ms = 217 KB/sec, approx 1788 Kbps, 1.75 Mbps
2nd 512K took 1610 ms = 318 KB/sec, approx 2620 Kbps, 2.56 Mbps
3rd 512K took 1344 ms = 381 KB/sec, approx 3139 Kbps, 3.07 Mbps
4th 512K took 1812 ms = 282.6 KB/sec, approx 2329 Kbps, 2.27 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 2469 Kbps, 2.41 Mbps

Been onto technical support and they are saying ti is fine....and wuldnt take it that my speed is crap.....so i ended up putting my phone down.......

Any ideas....hopefulyl some Ntl Tech guru will answer this??

Are you getting low speeds at specific times of the day?

Welcome to the forum.

At the moment, i would read a few of the threads in this section. It could be your modem\router\firewall\connection etc, or you could just be suffering as quite a lot us are with poor speeds.

make sure you have checked your speed by connecting directly to your modem and doing a speed test rather than via a router.

i dont own a router......just thinking it might be my modem that cant reach the speed as it was the first modem they ever issued for broadband.....anyone think a new modem will resolver it??

i'm on 10mb, getting sub-2mb speeds on newsgroups, dunno whether newsdemon is just cack or if it's ntl...:(

speed tests from here show around 4-5mb which i have come to expect, but really....

Just to let you know finally found the solution - its the modem it cant run a 10mb service on it.....

So ring Ntl - email um this and then basically say they have to upgrade ure modem......

Mines on its way.....

This modem has only a 10BaseT Ethernet connection, thus will limit your
throughput setting of anything above 3-6Mbps.

I can get 8 mb on a Tjet so doubt the problem is your modem, unless of course it is broken.
Make sure Ntl don't con you into giving them £50.00 for a new 250 modem when all the time the problem is likely to be their oversubscribed network and abysmal peering arrangements.

dont get your hopes up yet the 10mb duplex port would limit to 5-6 meg your 3 meg speeds seem low for a modem limit.

i rang ntl up and they said they have changed teh config file for my modem and lifted its capped limit to upto 8meg - for teh time being whilst i wait for teh new modem......

Maybe they are having a contest in CS to see who can spin the most ridiculous story to a customer. :rolleyes:

Kind of like dropping the word of the day into the conversation but with getting the customer off the phone at the same time.
