Torrent help: slow downloads

Hi there,

Hoping people can help, i've read through the forum but im Im having trouble with torrent downloads with whatever client i use, i've tried bittornado, utorrent and now on azureus but it all does the same in that my download rarely goes above 12 kb/s! I'm on ntl 2mb cable broadband with a wireless connection on a buffalo wyr-g54.
I have :-
-done port forwarding in my router using 65530.
- have turned firewall off to rule it out
- Turned off upnp which makes no difference
- limited upload to 10kb/s to see if it makes any difference
- have max upload slots of 3, connections per torrent of 23, and 204 max global connections.
- speedcheck :
Downstream 1778 Kbps (222.3 KB/sec) 1920 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 187 Kbps (23.4 KB/sec) 201 Kbps (inc. overheads)

I'd be grateful if anyone could help im pulling my hair out here for the past month *sniff* :(

It's very annoying. for example on my current download, i can see 67 seeds and 427 peers but im downloading at 9kb/s! but yet when i download off the internet its 200 kb/s +. obviously i expect torrenting to be slower but not this slow lol!

many thanks for any help,

mikey :dunce: :D

Re: Torrent help: slow downloads

I find torrents very variable, what works one day goes at a crawl the next, without changing anything.

The setting that works best for me & my router is enabling upnp & I limit the upstream to 12kB/s. (using Bittorrent) - the best download I have ever had is only around 100KB/s, though.

Re: Torrent help: slow downloads

try downloading a linux cd. (waits for laughter to die down - I really do mean a real linux cd, not the other kind!). Official torrents for linux distros are usuallyblindingly fast as they have fast uploaders and are completely legal so you don't get bad data being sent into the swarm to slow things down. Also the trackers are usually more stable so keeping you with that smiley face and a massive swarm.

If you are still getting really slow downloads when downloading an official linux distro, then you know something is up with your connection.

there is your problem, 3 upload slots you are barely connectable. Set it to 15+, keep the max upload at 10kb.

Perhaps NTL are using this equipment or something similar.
