There have been a few occasions of late on one computer I have been using when the browser (IE) kept jumping to this

http://127.0.0.1:44501/pl.html?START_LOG

whats that all about then? as it seemed that the page was blank. Is it something sinister like a keylogger or something? :(

Its something on your computer using port number 44501. Do you user Keiro Personal firewall per chance?

It uses that port for Logging of blocked pop-up and pop-under windows.

If pop-up blocking is enabled (see chapter 14.1. The Ad Blocking tab), a special script is used for corresponding webpages that sends Personal Firewall Engine information about blocked pages. Traffic is performed by TCP protocol through a special port (44501).

This link suggests it's related to the Kerio popup blocker - do you have Kerio?
