ADSL vs BY on Redditch UBR (B97)
I'm currently on 2Mbit Zen ADSL and have been really happy with it, but I'm being tempted by 8Mbit or 10Mbit for the same price. Based on my line stats, I'd get 5-8Mbit with MaxADSL.
Does anyone know about BY on my UBR? Is there any packet loss? Does it loose sync. What's the slowdown like at peak times? Thanks, Adam |
Re: ADSL vs BY on Redditch UBR (B97)
Thought I'd mention ... I'm not a speed freak: 8mbit or 10mbit is plenty - at these sort of speeds I'm more interested in latency and reliability as this will have more bearing on everything.
Thanks, Adam |

Zen 8000 Pro is £34.99
Nildram 8000 will be about £32 BY 10mbit is £35 |

I personally would go with blueyonder. i had adsl once apon a time and I really didnt like it. When I switched f
to blueyonder, what a difference. it only cut out once in 18 months and even that was for upgrades. its up to you though... |
Re: ADSL vs BY on Redditch UBR (B97)
Do you get any slowdowns during the day?
On 2Mbit Zen ADSL, I haven't had a loss of sync in the 12months that I've had it, pings to www.bbc.co.uk range from 24 to 32ms throughout the day and I always am able to max out my connection (240KB/s). I'm sure I'd get a similar service at 5-8Mbit. There's no queue on the tech support line and the guys know what they're doing. I've been working in network/server management with Linux/BSD for about 6yrs, so it takes a lot for a tech support line to impress me. Is BY that reliable? If I got a 10Mbit line, would I be likely to actually get 10Mbit? How much would it vary at peak times? Do you have latency problems at certain times? Thanks, Adam |

If you don't need much speed, I would suggest BY 4meg. That's what I use and I cannot fault it. I cant speak for any other ISP though...
