Don't understand PSTN-NTL
Hi. New here and hoping someone can help.
I want to buy a Voip and Skype CORDLESS dual phone that works on landline with a switchover button. I'm on ntl phone and ntl broadband. I'm confused though because of this part of the description of the phone: "Caller ID for VOIP / Also supports Caller ID on PSTN lines. Transfer PSTN call or PSTN call During internal call." ARE NTL pstn lines? Or do they use a different means of ....whatever, telephony? I've tried searching on the net but can't find anything confirming either way. Editing to add a bit more about it, in case it matters: USB Internet Phone Features Built-in sound card for excellent digital-quality internet phone use. Echo-free high quality audio sound. Full duplexing audio Plug & Play supported through USB interface for easy installation and use. Rings on a PSTN or VOIP incoming call. I don't want to buy this if the phone part of it (ntl landline ?) won't work - because it would be cheaper to simply buy a skype phone to plug into the pc. But DO want to buy it if it WILL work on ntl phoneline - limited space and this would mean having just one 'cordless' phone to answer either skype or landline, whichever rings. PLEASE does anyone know? I've got so confused :erm: trying to understand messages on various forums that say - ntl is different, doesn't use sntp, does use sntp... trouble with various phones on ntl...etc. Everylastingly grateful to anyone who can give a clear definite YES it will work or NO it won't. Thanks :-) |

Re: Don't understand PSTN-NTL
My thought is that if a dialup modem will work with either a BT or a NTL line, without any changes, then NTL lines are PSTN compatible.
- I have also used a portable (non dect) cordless phone with both a BT & a NTL line with no problems. Our current dect one works fine on our NTL line, as does a normal wired one. <edit> thanks for the confirmation, Bill :tu: |
Re: Don't understand PSTN-NTL
Thank you everybody :luv:
I did ring up ntl before searching, but the person I spoke to didn't know what PSTN was so he put me onto the shop, that was closed, so went online to ntl shop but couldn't find anything, did more searches on google, got so confused that just about everything became a muddle. Thanks again. Paula |
