Help Needed Wireless Connection
Hope someone can help.
I am unable to connect to the internet using my laptop and wireless card. My set up is as follows. Ethernet cable going from SB4100 to BT Voyager router Ethernet Cable going into NIC on PC Laptop has wireless card I have net access using my PC When using the lapto i get "page cannot be displayed" The laptop states the signal is excellent and it is connected to the Voyager. I have checked and double checked all settings (no Joy) Any help suggestions would be much appreciated :) |
Re: Help Needed Wireless Connection
Just to check - is the router an ADSL modem/router or a 'plain' broadband router. If it is an ADSL modem/router (with a telephone-type connection), it won't work on cable - you're just using it as a 'network hub' to connect your PC to the SB4100.

Re: Help Needed Wireless Connection
Hello. Thanks for the quick reply.
The BT Voyager is ADSL and has a DSL connection on the back. If i buy a wireless Cable router will i be able to use my laptop (wirelessly) and my PC wired at the same time? Thanks again |

No doubt i'll be back soon seeking help Thanks again :) ---------- Post added at 16:04 ---------- Previous post was at 14:11 ---------- Would this Router do the job BT Voyager 1500 Wireless Add wireless to your existing broadband connection. Ideal for Broadband customers already using a router like the BT Voyager 205 and for cable broadband customers. The BT Voyager 1500 gives you a high-speed network which allows both wired and wireless broadband access. Add wireless and sharing capabilities to an existing broadband Internet connection (i.e you must have an ethernet router). It includes four Ethernet sockets to connect a games console or other Ethernet-enabled equipment. |
Re: Help Needed Wireless Connection
I'd recommend the Linksys WRT54G - NAT router with wireless G access point & 4 port switch.

Re: Help Needed Wireless Connection
For starters, right click on the wireless icon in the system tray, and select status. On the status window, click on the support tab. Does this show an IP address something like 192.168.nnn.nnn?
It should also show the default gateway address, eg 192.168.1.1. If these look OK, can you browse to the IP address of the gateway (your router)? Let us know how you get on with these. |
