I was looking at a friend of mine's pc the other day as she was having problems with it and noticed she had some vpn software (microfts own I think) on it which i thought was strange as she's an unemployed single mum

a friend of her ex had sorted out her pc previously and I assumed he's added it without telling her, can vpn be used for romote access or to spy on what she's doing on the internet?

She's using ME btw

If your friend has no use for the VPN software then remove it as her system will not be fully secure while it is on there and someone has the necessary knowledge to use it. It could be that he put it there for any future issues that he could remote fix but I would err on the side of caution personally.
