Initial setup for Linksys WRT54G & Telewest modem

A friend has asked me to help them setup a wireless router for their home network but after having a look at this I need some guidance. I'm not familiar with broadband cable as I use ADSL hence the question.

I have everything connected as detailed and have done the required power off, wait a couple of minutes and then power on. During the setup wizard I get to the point where it should auto detect the connection (i.e. cable) but I then get the Advanced Internet Settings screen with a choice of DHCP, PPPoE, Static IP, PPTP etc. The one 'selected' is static IP but this to me doesn't seem right as the router should be acting as a DHCP server (I would have thought). So the question is what should this be set to if it's not auto detecting the cable modem?

Cheers.

:welcome:

You need to set the router to obtina it's ip by DHCP (from the telewest network). Whether you use static or dynamic ip addressing on the local network is upto you (or your friend!)
