Re: cd problem

no on the motherboard there are 2 ide sockets and 1 floppy socket. the floppy is in as always and the hdd is in 1 of the ide sockets and the cdrw is in the remaining ide socket. i noted that the old cd drive jumper was set to master so i set the cdrw jumper to master aswell. i have plugged everything in ( power, ide cable, sound connection) but to no avail. the cd drive will eject and go in tho

Re: cd problem

The cable from the the ide socket usually has two plugs on it,
I think the last one is master

Re: cd problem

Sounds like you should set the second one to auto detect, the old drive may be specified so it doesnt know what the new one is .
Edit> In Bios

Re: cd problem

The log viewer is under start/controlpanel/admin/log viewer

Would it be possible to take another(yours?) pc to try the cdrw?
or if you can't do that bring it home and try it?
Or take out yours and try in the other one ,,,,NO.:disturbd:.. forget that, thats asking for trouble

Re: cd problem

Your jumpers are wrong- has the drive been swaptested on another PC?

Re: cd problem

The ide lead you used,Does it have a peg so that it will only plug in one way? if not make sure you use the 2 lines each side of the ide female plug to line up with the notch in the male. There is a chance you have the lead incorrectly placed
