Wireless Network 2 PC's
 

First of all to save you time, can i just buy 2 of these and fit 1 in my Master Computer, and One in my Slave Computer Downstairs and establish a secure Network?

If not can someone please see attatched Document and fill in the blanks so i know what needs to be connected to what so i can set up a 2 PC Network.

When i can see something Visually I can understand it but so far reading about Networks has left me with a headache.

According the Q&As on the site, apparently so... Personally, I'd have thought you'd need a router in the equation, but what do I know...? :shrug:

Accoding to the FAQs on that linked page it will work for you but as for how secure it will be :shrug:

If you need internet access, your master computer, in addtion to the USB wireless cards that you are adding, will need a connection to the modem, with that connection being a wired ethernet or USB. However as you would then presumably use Internet Connection Sharing over the USB wireless from the slave to the master, that may proove interesting to setup.

It could well be easier to got the standard method, even if it is a tad more expensive. Get a wireless router and one, not two wireless adaptors. Your main PC can stay wired but now via the router, and you slave gets the wireless.

Ok Rob so I get a Router, What leads go into the Router and which leads go into my Modem :dozey:

You'll need 1 x Cat5 ethernet cable between cable modem and the wireless router.

Ok so Ethernet Cable from Modem > Router

Where does my Ethernet Card on my PC come in to it? :dozey:

The PCs will have a 'wireless' network card, and via this, the PCs can communicate with the router. The modem itself has no wireless capabilities, so you need the wireless router to be able to connect to it without wires.

So PC1 And PC2 both need a PCI wireless Card

And the Modem connects ethernet to the router instead of the PC ethernet card.

Well, you can buy USB wireless adapters which you use instead of a PCI Wireless Card, but I always prefer a proper network card, unless your PC has no spare PCI slots.

You're right that you connect modem <-> wireless router (via ethernet cable)
