printer setup problems
just got myself printer to be gettin on with and got a prob which is *%&$*($ me right off.
it's a lexmark Z735 (i know it's cheap before anybody says), anyway i've set it all up, installed the drivers and software for it..........but can't print a damn thing.....even a test page, and what ever i have tried all i get is a &%&%&^%&^% voice saying "can't communicate with the printer". thought it might be something to do with the usb cable i've got (tight arses didn't supply one) so as an after thought tried the one that came with my modem......and u guessed it still the same prob. the printer is seen but can't be talked to  , has anyone else had one of these with the same prob and knows how to sort it or am i jonah form a previos life with all the bad luck:Yikes: |
Re: printer setup problems
Is the printer listed in Device Manager? If so delete it, reboot and XP should ask you when you log on for the install media. Could have just been that the drivers had got currupted during the install process.

Re: printer setup problems
From what I have heard, Lexmark do not have the best of reputations for drivers with XP...
You may need to go to thier website and see if they have an updated driver from the one in the box. hth |
Re: printer setup problems
Also, check printer properties - ports to see that it isnt set to a com or lpt port... if it is, u should be able to set it to use usb in there. and yes it is a cheap printer but I dont think your inks will be :(

Re: printer setup problems
all sorted now thanks guys,
just unistalled the whole bloody thing and reinstalled and bingo, the only thing different was i had a tweak with the services (disabled, renabled and restarted the print spooler and SSDP services), dunno why it wouldn't work first time round but all ok now. :D ---------- Post added at 22:43 ---------- Previous post was at 22:40 ---------- Quote:
