Domain Renewal.....

If I see a Domain I like, & it ends in 4 days (7th March)... If the owner does NOT renew on March 7th... Can I buy it that day? Is there a way to Order it NOW incase others try & get it?

123-REG I want to register with...

I saw this... Says 35 Days after  but is that for all UK domains? or.com only?

If you have not renewed your domain before, or up to 35 days after expiry the Registry will put the domain into a 'redemption status'. This means that the domain is still registered but would have had its nameservers removed. The domain can be made live again, but this is a manual process and has to be done by contacting 123-reg Support. The cost of getting a domain out of redemption is £200 plus vat. Redemption periods vary in length, however, if a domain is still not renewed in this time it will then become available to register again.

Actually what it says is that if you don't renew a domain you own in less than 35 days after expiry, it will cost you (as the current owner) £200 to reactivate it. But it is still yours to reactivate for an unspecified period of time after those 35 days.

If you want to poach someone else's domain, you need to wait for the renewal to lapse for 35 days, then let it further lapse for the 'redemption period' which varies in length.

For .com and .net, the Redemption period starts 45 days after expiry and ends on 75 days. Linky

EDIT

It appears that for .uk the redemption period expires 90 days after the initial domain expiry Google is your friend ;) :D

Re: Domain Renewal.....

There was a guy in the UK that purchased hotmail.co.uk as microsoft forgot to renew it.
He rang them and sent several emails which got ignored.
I think in the end they realised thier mistake and he let them have the domain....

think i'll go off and scout some domains......
