Telwest cancellation - some help please

Hope someone can help with this.

I have recently moved from an area th has telewest to another area that does not.
I am currently 4 months throu my contract, and been told that I have 3 choices

Confirmed by cancellations (customer retention etc)
1) Pay the remainder of the basic package
2) Change the service to a friend, and have them continue the rest of the term.
3) Cancel because Telewest cannot provide in the area

FOOLISHLY said I would think and phone back in 10 mins.

When I phoned back I found that I could notchoose opt 3, as apparently telewest dont do this. Cant do opt 2 wither cause a move in install is active for new 12 months contract.
This onlyreally leave me with 1 option.

Can anyone shed some light on this

Rgds

:welcome:

AFAIK you are in contract for the full 12months, however Telewest at their discretion can let you cancel within this period if you move. It appears that there is a little inconsistency among TW staff, as some seem to be happy to let you cancel if you are moving to a non cabled area, but some will not.

Perhaps it is worth calling back and hoping you get a nice person??!

I'm in the same situation. Just popped a letter in the post basically saying I'm
disgusted that its one rule for one person and a different rule for the rest.

We will see if that works :)

I contacted Citizenââ‚à ‚¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s Advice and was told †œCompanies cannot charge for services they fail to deliver, regardless of any contract you have signedââ‚Ãâ €šÂ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚.

So I think I'm in with a chance....

I'm afraid option 1 is the only available one.

Option 3, as you say, doesn't happen.

Option 2 (Transfer of Responsibility) is only available to somebody who has lived at the property for 6 months, so unless you are moving out but somebody else is staying this is not possible. They also have a minimum 12 month contract from the day of transfer.

Customer Relations may have waived the contract cancellation fee (the rest of your term at the minimum service level) for some customers but this is very unlikely for customers 4 months into their contract (more likely for 10/11 months in folks) and is a lot rarer then you might think.

Sucks a bit really, but the company does have to recoup it's install costs with minimum contracts.

As for the CAB advice - it's crap - sorry.

Well Telewest can provide the service to the property, regardless of whether you are there to receive it or not, so this won't help i'm afraid!

They can't provide it to the property. The contract is with the person. Not the property.

The contract is between yourself and the company to supply services *to* the property.

Chris W is spot on.

I had a great one with telewest. I moved house, gave the proper notice etc etc, and was told take the equipment with you and we will come and collect it on xx/xx/xx. I tried to explain that I was moving outside their area, and then surprise surprise noone came and collected it. Nearly two years latter I still have telewest kit sitting in my understairs cuboard.
